Carlsbad Flower Fields

If you’re wanting to stroll through a picturesque flower field with the wind in your hair and not a care in the world, then this is the place for you! With over 50 acres it will make you feel like you’ve stepped into a fairytale. The ranunculus, better known as the “Persian Buttercup” are so vibrant and come in a rainbow of colors. And although you can’t pick the flowers, you can purchase them online or at the gift shop. There are also other sights to explore like the sweet pea maze or the bird aviaries. Not a fan of walking? Then climb aboard the Antique Tractor and be driven around the fields. And if you get hungry you can stop by the U-Pick Blueberry patch. Admission is free and baskets can be purchased for blueberry picking. Just a heads up, tickets for the flower fields must be purchased online in advance; admission is $20 for adults and $10 for children. The website says the best time to visit is in April before they close in May!

San Diego Botanic Garden

Now if Ranunculus aren’t really your thing then check out the World of Orchids at the San Diego Botanic Garden. Beginning April 3rd, the Dickinson Family Education Conservatory will be transformed into a habitat for these beautiful tropical flowers. Visitors will also be able to enjoy artistic floral displays created from cut orchids. The displays will continue to change throughout the month of April so don’t be afraid to visit more than once. On the weekends orchids can be purchased at the direct orchid market. Admission to the World of Orchids is included with entrance to the Botanic Garden. Tickets are $18 for adults and $10 for children.

California Poppies

Now we couldn’t write a blog post about San Diego flowers without mentioning the state flower. Who could forget the 2019 super-bloom in the fields of Lake Elsinore, along the popular Walker Canyon Trail? The hills exploded with color as far as the eye could see. Sadly, because of the lack of rain this winter, many of the places like Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve have very little to no poppies this season. This is truly heartbreaking to both tourists and locals alike. However, keep an eye out for any pops of color when you’re driving. You never know where wildflowers could be growing. But if you’re still longing for that golden glow, we found a company in San Diego that sells poppy seeds.

We hope all this talk about flowers and springtime has brightened up your day.

Comment down below which places you’ll be headed to first, and don’t forget to share your photos with us on Facebook and Instagram @sandiegopicnics
